Rivers United edged past Al Masry of Egypt 2-1 today in a first leg CAF Confederation Cup playoff game in Aba.
The return leg match will be played in Egypt on Sunday, December 5 with the overall winners advancing to the group phase of the competition.
Rivers United opened scoring in the 24th minute through Uche Iwuanyasanya.
However, the visitors drew level a minute later through Mohamed Antar.
Ishaq Kayode fired the winning goal for the home side in the 35th minute.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s other flag bearers Enyimba will play their own first leg playoffs against Libya’s Al Ittihad at another date after they failed to reach Tunisia.
