Officials admitted that Super Eagles players were terrified when they had to make an emergency landing in Angola after the windshield of their chartered aircraft cracked mid-flight on their way from a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in South Africa.
The players and officials are now safely booked into a hotel in Luanda.
Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Besiktas both issued statements to announce that their players, Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi respectively are safe after the incident.
The Super Eagles will head back to Uyo by 6am tomorrow with another aircraft.
Estimated flight time from Luanda is put at three hours, officials said.
“Everybody is now safely in the hotel and the players are now a lot more relaxed after the problems with the plane,” a team official informed SCORENigeria
“The return to Angola was slow so as not to cause more problems.
“A disaster was averted, thankfully.
“We will fly back tomorrow with one training session planned for later that day.”
In the meantime, Super Eagles rivals Benin have touched down in Uyo for Tuesday’s final showdown for a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
