Beyond Limits have been crowned the champions of the prestigious B17E category at the Gothia Cup 2025.
They thus succeeded another Nigerian club, Sporting Lagos, who beat them in the semifinals last year.
The Nigerian team emerged victorious after a thrilling final match against ASEC Mimosas from Cote d’Ivoire, which went all the way to penalties.
ASEC Mimosas took the lead in the fifth minute with Emile Emmanuel Zongo’s acrobatic finish, but Beyond Limits equalised in the 20th minute, making it 1-1 at halftime.
The second half was a closely contested battle, with both teams creating chances but neither able to find a winner, leading to a penalty shootout.
The shootout was filled with drama and tension, with Beyond Limits ultimately winning 7-6 after ASEC Mimosas missed their penalty in the eighth round.
Emmanuel Ayowonuola Adeboyejo, named MVP of the final, expressed his feelings after the dramatic shootout, saying, “I feel amazing and so relieved after that dramatic shootout. We’ve been a great team throughout this tournament, and I truly believe we deserve this”.
Beyond Limits victory marks a significant achievement, restoring Nigerian dominance in the elite youth tournament.
The team demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, scoring 28 goals and conceding just 10 throughout the tournament. They won every single match they played, showcasing their strength in both defense and attack.
