Neigbouring Benin Republic may now host the first leg of the Ghana vs Super Eagles World Cup playoffs on March 25 after it emerged that Ghana cannot provide a suitable venue for the clash.
Morocco could be another option for Ghana to play the first leg.
Reports out of Ghana have suggested that the original match venue of the Cape Coast Stadium has been rejected by CAF after the pitch was seriously damaged during the country’s 65th anniversary celebrations.
Nigeria filed a petition to CAF on the state of the pitch and a CAF/FIFA inspection delegation is now in Ghana to follow up on this.
CAF had earlier rejected an application by Ghana for the match to be moved to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
CAF said that application was turned down because it fell outside the agreed deadline.
The return leg of the World Cup playoffs between the two West African rivals will be played on March 29 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
