Former Super Eagles captain Segun Odegbami has described South Africa as “very dangerous”, but he expects the Super Eagles to be champions of Africa again if they go past Bafana Bafana Wednesday night.
Nigeria will take on South Africa for the 14th time Wednesday by 8pm in Cairo with the winners advancing to the 2019 AFCON semifinals.
“South Africa are most dangerous. They didn’t start well, but now they are doing well,” Odegbami said on a television programme monitored by SCORENigeria
“So, Nigeria have to be very, very careful against them because once we can get rid of them, we will bring the cup back home.”
South Africa shocked out hosts and seven-time champions Egypt 1-0 before a packed Cairo International Stadium to set up a quarterfinal clash against Nigeria.
However, ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami said he has so far been most impressed with Algeria at the AFCON in Egypt.
“Algeria have impressed me the most. They have looked like champions,” he said.
Incidentally, Odegbami scored twice against the North Africans for Nigeria to win their first-ever AFCON title in 1980 in Lagos.
