Forest are mathematically safe with 37 points from as many matches as both Leicester City and Everton cannot catch up with them.
It is a remarkable achievement for Forest, who returned to the top league this season after many years in the lower league.
They were down in the relegation zone for five months, but a burst of form by their Nigeria striker has now kept them up.
Awoniyi scored back-to-back braces against Southampton and Chelsea this month to keep Forest hope of survival alive.
Today, he scored his ninth goal in the Premier League to give his team all full points and at the same time crowned Manchester City champions.
City have 85 points from 35 matches, while nearest rivals Arsenal have 81 points on 37 points.
