Udinese defender William Ekong faces a ban from the Super Eagles after he demanded the players be paid an outstanding $15,000 each for winning third place at the last AFCON in Egypt.
Furious NFF officials described Ekong as arrogant when in Ukraine last month he, as stand-in captain, asked on behalf of the team they be paid what was promised them for beating Tunisia to finish third at the 2019 AFCON.
However, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has sided with the players in this matter and again called up Ekong for next month’s high-profile friendly against Brazil in Singapore to the displeasure of top officials, SCORENigeria has further gathered.
“The Eagles are spitting fire,” a source close to the national team told SCORENigeria
“They are demanding their outstanding bonuses and other allowances from the AFCON.”
It is now left to be seen how the players will react before the match against Brazil on October 13 in Singapore.
