Tolu Arokodare has revealed his goal in a UEFA Conference League playoff against Adana Demirspor has boosted his self-confidence after he was criticised by the fans for some below-par performances.
The under-fire Genk striker came in Thursday for fellow Nigerian Yira Sor in the 71st minute to draw the Belgian club level with a wonderful volley.
This goal not only had an impact on the result, but also on the striker himself.
“It was very important for me personally because I needed the confidence back,” he said.
“I’m a professional so I always have to be at my best, but I’m only human. I’ve made mistakes, sometimes we have an off-day.”
Still, Arokodare maintained the knocks he has received lately have been unfair.
“A lot of emotions came up in my head. You play one or two bad games and they tear you down,” he said.
“That is very difficult. When you score, suddenly everyone is your friend. It is my job to score goals, I always go the extra mile when I am on the field.
“I know sometimes it seems like I’m not doing my best, but I’m just trying to do my job.”
