Super Eagles recent call-up Cyriel Dessers will not be under pressure to prove he can score in any league after his transfer back to Belgium with KRC Genk was finalised.
Dessers will sign a four-year contract with Genk on July 1 from Dutch club Heracles.
Genk will pay four million Euros.
Football expert Ludo Vandewalle of Het Nieuwsblad predicted: “(Transfer fee for Dessers) is not a huge amount. Club Brugge paid eight million Euros for Okereke and he did not score often.
“Also, Genk already paid five million Euros for Ingvartsen, so he is not even the record signing. It is always quieter in Genk than with the other clubs in our country.”
Top scorers in the Dutch league have struggled in other leagues in recent times with experts suggesting that it because the league in the Netherlands allows for more space and is less physical.
Dessers now has a chance to prove he can also score in Belgium after his previous struggles with OH Leuven and Lokeren in his fatherland
“He’s a sensible guy, likeable too and in the past seasons at NAC, Utrecht and Heracles good for one goal per two games.
“It is now up to him to prove that a goal scorer can adapt to any league,” said the expert.
