English Championship leading scorer Chuba Akpom has had his contract with Middlesbrough extended by another year to cool off interest from several Premier League clubs.
The striker’s contract was due to run out at the end of the season.
He will now stay put at ‘Boro till at least the end of the 2023/2024 season after the club triggered off an extension clause in the contract.
Former Arsenal ace Akpom is the top scorer in the English second-tier league with 13 goals from 20 games this season.
Such form has alerted Premier League clubs including Everton and Crystal Palace, but manager Michael Carrick has always maintained the striker is not for sale.
In the meantime, the striker was on target for Middlesbrough today but it was not enough to get them to the fourth round of the FA Cup after they fell 5-1 to Brighton.
Akpom headed in an equaliser to restore parity before Brighton turned on the heat.
