Ajax coach Maurice Steijn has told Calvin Bassey it would be in his best interest he moved away from the Amsterdam club this summer.
“I told Calvin Bassey it would be better to leave Ajax,” the Ajax coach told Telegraaf.
“Also because of the money. When he leaves — we can strengthen the squad properly. I have told him this honestly.”
Bassey is now close to completing a transfer to Premier League club Fulham.
Ajax and Fulham have agreed a transfer fee of 21 Million Euros and the Dutch club for the 23-year-old defender.
The Super Eagles defender will now agree personal terms and undergo a routine medical to complete the transfer to the London club.
