Captain Ahmed Musa has said he hopes to become the first Nigerian player to win the AFCON for a second time alongside Kenneth Omeruo.
Ahmed Musa and Omeruo were on the winning Super Eagles team who beat Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final of the 2013 AFCON in Johannesburg, South Africa.
“It will be great thing to win the AFCON twice,” he said.
The former Leicester City winger has insisted the team will always come ahead of his own personal interests and so he is rooting for them even though he has yet to play at this AFCON.
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro described the player with a record 108 caps for Nigeria as special.
“He has yet to play, but he has advised me about many things,” he remarked.
“He supports the coach who does not pick him to play.
“He knows better than me some of the players, Ahmed is special, amazing. He commands the team.”
