USA-based Nigerian players’ intermediary Kingsley Chukwuemeka has stated the reasons he believes the Flying Eagles failed to reach the final of the U20 AFCON in Egypt.
The said the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the coaching crew are to blame for the poor showing of the team which failed to beat The Gambia in the semifinals of the competition.
“Nigeria football authorities believe that qualification for the U20 World Cup is our birth right and enough for the country at the competition,’ Chukwuemeka he told SCORENigeria
“But the preparation of the team was poor,
“And though some of the players have some potential, they were not good enough for this tournament.”
He stated further that the technical crew led by Ladan Bosso should not have been appointed.
“I personally believe that NFF got it all wrong with the technical crew appointed for the team, they could have find a better technical crew,” he argued.
“The crew wasted the little time they had in experimenting with foreign based players whom they know won’t be available.
“The U 20 national team are senior team players, half of the players playing in top clubs in Europe and America are 20 years and under. Most of the players playing in this tournament for Nigeria have not even played as a professional in the Nigerian National League (NNL) or in the Nigeria Premier League.
“To make the situation worst, the NFF equipped the team with a crew whose typically deficiency was on full display.
“They were very lucky to even qualify for the World Cup but unfortunately the best they could achieve was reaching the semifinal.
“I wanted them to win the cup, but the team were nowhere near the quality to achieve that.”
