The Super Falcons got off to a poor start in this year’s Women’s World Cup after they went down 3-0 to Norway no thanks to defensive mistakes at the back.
This was the Nigerians’ 17th loss at the World Cup.
France and Norway have now recorded three points each, while Korea Republic and Nigeria are pointless.
Both Korea and the Falcons will hope for a change of fortune when they clash in Grenoble on Wednesday.
The Norwegians took a dig at the defending of the nine-time African champions before this Group A clash and it was what played out in the first half, when the Europeans netted all three of their goals.
Norway went ahead after 17 minutes after Guro Reiten’s shot was deflected home by Onome Ebi’s hand.
Nigeria failed to clear their lines properly and Lisa-Marie Utland fired home in the 34th minute from a quick link-up play.
Norway then benefitted with an own goal by Osinachi Ohale in the 37th minute.
In the second half, the Falcons tightened up at the back, but it was too little, too late for the African champions.
