Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby has said his team will now have to beat Korea Republic on Wednesday in Grenoble to stand any chance of going past the group stage of the Women’s World Cup after they were swept away by Norway in their opening game.
“We have to win our next game,” said Dennerby after defensive mistakes combined for Norway to put three goals past the African champions after 37 minutes of action in Reims Saturday night.
Falcons most experienced player Onome Ebi added: “We have to win the second game [against Korea Republic], we’ll do all we can to win.
“We’re going to go back and look at our mistakes and maybe work on them.
“The second game will be better than the first, we’ve learned so much from this first game and we’ll come back.”
Dennerby lamented the defensive errors by his team, saying such is not acceptable at this level of the game.
The Falcons final group game will be on Sunday, June 17 against hosts France, who lead Group A after the 4-0 demolition of Korea in Paris on Friday.
