Napoli would not have been sanctioned had they stopped the striker from international duty going by FIFA ruling that clubs are not obliged to release their players for international games because of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Osimhen later trained with the rest of the squad at Friday’s match venue, the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
Last month, he failed to join up with the squad as he was quarantined in Italy after a number of positive Coronavirus cases at his club.
He is the leading scorer in the AFCON qualifiers with three goals after two rounds of matches.
South Africa-based Daniel Akpeyi has also joined up to bring to four the goalkeepers in Benin, the others being Maduka Okoye, Sebastian Osigwe and Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
Samuel Chukwueze, Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke and Emmanuel Dennis also reported to camp earlier today.
Edo State Governor Obaseki was at the Eagles training Wednesday evening after his deputy, Philip Shuaibu, trained with them yesterday.
Kick-off on Friday is 5pm local time.
