Coach Austin Eguavoen has said Super Falcons were superior to Comoros, but he was nervous when both teams were goalless by halftime.
Nigeria were convincing 2-0 winners over Comoros in a 2028 Los Angeles Olympics second round first leg qualifier in Ikenne, but they had to wait until after the interval to break the deadlock.
“I was nervous at the start because it’s an away game, a draw away from home would be good, but for our pedigree and the quality we have, forget the names of the countries, we played them with utmost respect, but first half barren nil-nil was worrisome,” Eguavoen admitted at the post-match briefing.
“I knew at some point we will score, it was just a matter of time, because we dominated from the beginning to the end of the first half.
“They gave us a good fight, but we showed our superiority.”
Both teams will clash again at the same venue Tuesday with the overall winners advancing to the third round of the qualifying series, where Morocco await.
