Abdul Abdulmalik has explained why he had to stay away from training to force to transfer to Swedish club Djurgarden.
Boreham Wood owner complained that the forward stayed away from training and matches while they were negotiating his transfer to Sweden.
Abdulmalik has now defended his actions by saying he needed to think about himself.
“The clubs negotiated back and forth. Me and my closest people said that if I get injured now, the move is over. And you might not get an opportunity like this again. Who knows? You can’t predict the future, so we thought it was best that I didn’t train with the team for those reasons,” he told TV4.
He continued: “I didn’t want to skip training, because I like training and being with my now former teammates. But I needed to think about my career.
“If you get injured now, what happens?” It was a tough decision.”
It was a drama that affected him mentally.
“You could say it was special, during the process it was very draining. Not only for me but also for my family. We had a couple of sleepless nights where we woke up in the middle of the night. We were just thinking. The stress probably kept us awake,” Abdulmalik reasoned.
