Gianni Infantino will seek re-election as FIFA President next year despite growing calls for him to resign.
Several national associations around the world have announced that they will not support incumbent president Infantino.
But Infantino does not seem to have any thoughts of either resigning or refraining from participating in the next elections.
Sky Sports reported that a FIFA spokesperson announced that Infantino has set his sights on re-election.
“The FIFA President announced in April that he will stand for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Mr. Infantino will stand for re-election,” the spokesperson announced.
Infantino has been called upon to resign by several parties after a series of controversies. The final straw was when he tried to sell shares of the World Cup to private investors last summer.
He did not answer questions about seeking re-election at the opening ceremony of the U20 Women’s World Cup, which kicked off Saturday in Poland.
The vote for the FIFA presidency will be held at the FIFA Congress in Morocco next year.
Candidates who want to challenge Infantino must declare their intention to run in the election by November 18.
