Portuguese champions Benfica Ladies have blocked new striker Janet ‘Semenya’ Akekoromowei from next month’s U20 World Cup in Poland.
The big striker, who recently signed for Benfica, was called up for the World Cup by the Falconets, but her new club have the option to stop her because the World Cup is not within the FIFA calendar.
“Benfica do not want her to go to the World Cup,” a source close to the player told only SCORENigeria
“They have even barnished her to the B team as a result.
“They said that the NFF did not take care of her when she was injured on international duty and instead they had to intervene and even signed her while she was still injured.”
It was understood that the player’s representatives will meet with Benfica next week to try and resolve this impasse.
Falconets coach Moses Aduku has spoken with ‘Semenya’ on the issue and he would very much wish she is part of his team to Poland, SCORENigeria further learnt.
