The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will begin the defense of their sub-regional U20 championship when they take on perennial rivals Ghana tomorrow afternoon in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.
This Jollof Derby is a repeat of the 2024 championship final in Lome, Togo, where the Flying Eagles ran away 2-1 winners.
The Flying Eagles under new coach Abdu Maikaba finalised their build-up to this tournament when they beat an Ivorian second division club 2-1 last week.
Tomorrow’s group game will kick off at 3pm Nigerian time.
Burkina Faso and Togo are the other teams in Group B, while hosts Cote d’Ivoire are drawn in Group A alongside Benin and Niger.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals with the finalists qualifying for next year’s U20 AFCON to be hosted by Ghana.
