Rangers won ‘The Oriental Derby’ against Enyimba 2-1 to topple Rivers United at the top of the standings after the Port Harcourt club fell 2-1 at Kano Pillars.
‘The Flying Antelopes’ now have 59 points from 35 matches, a point ahead of second-placed Rivers United with three rounds of matches to the end of the season.
In the battle of the front runners, Abia Warriors edged Ikorodu City 2-1 to move into fourth place behind the Lagos club.
Both teams are on 55 points each with Ikorodu City enjoying the better goals difference – +6 against +3 by Abia Warriors.
It is also very interesting at the other end of the table after Bayelsa fell 3-2 at Katsina United, Kun Khalifat held home team Plateau United to a 1-1 draw and Wikki Tourist lost 2-1 at home to Bendel Insurance.
Wikki are bottom of the standings with 40 points from 35 matches, but even ninth-placed Plateau United remain in danger of relegation to set the tone for a most competitive final three weeks of action.
