Emmanuel Ekong, son of former Super Eagles star Prince Ikpe Ekong, has said he is a lot happier playing as a striker under the new coach at Swedish club Malmo FF.
Last season under coach Henrik Rydstrom, Ekong junior played as a winger.
It was tough going for both the player and Malmo last season with Ekong making 21 appearances in Allsvenskan, 10 of which were starts and he was responsible for four goals.
Miguel Angel Ramirez has now taken over the club and has been playing the 23-year-old Ekong as one of two strikers.
“The feeling is good so far. I like the new coach and his game idea. I feel that I can use my strengths in a good way when I play with another striker and especially with the players that we have here. It suits me,” Ekong told Fotbollskanalen.
He admitted he did not live up to the high expectations when he returned to Sweden from Serie A last season.
“I played against big teams and was in Serie A, so the pressure was of course great. But I didn’t think about it. I knew I was coming here and I knew I could play and do well, then it didn’t happen,” he said.
