Eric Chelle has done credibly well to continue as Super Eagles coach and third place at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco is worth celebrating, according to former African Footballer of the Year Victor Ikpeba.
Eric Chelle led the Super Eagles to finish third at the 2025 AFCON after they failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup via the Playoffs in November.
“From where he was coming from, you have to give it to Eric Chelle because with all the problems we have, he still got the best of the players,” Ikpeba said in a radio interview.
“Continuity will be good for the Super Eagles and the NFF will soon sit with him to discuss a new contract.”
As discussions around the national team’s future continue, fans remain deeply engaged with Super Eagles news, match analysis and African football debates across digital platforms. Many supporters now follow interviews, statistics and post-match reactions online, often moving seamlessly between news outlets and interactive services where terms like Betwinner login appear as part of the broader football-focused online experience that surrounds major tournaments such as AFCON.
Ikpeba also took on critics, who said that Nigeria should not celebrate third place at the AFCON.
“Those people who say the bronze is not good enough should be ashamed of themselves because African football is not easy,” he argued.
“Is it realistic that we have to win every AFCON we play, when we also know that even if you have the best players and play the best football, there is also the element of luck?
“I remember that my last AFCON medal was a bronze in 2002 and we were all happy to have won it.”
