Coach Gernot Rohr has said Benin are disappointed that they failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“We’re disappointed because our dream was to play at the World Cup,” Rohr said.
“Big disappointment, that is my initial reaction.
“However, we have a young team and we will continue to build.”
“I am proud of my team because they did very well despite all the several challenges we had during the World Cup qualifiers,” he added while making reference to suspension of two key players as well as injuries leading up to the match in Uyo
Benin started out top of Group C only to finish third on 17 points and a +1 goals difference.
