Hull City defender Semi Ajayi has recovered fully from his latest injury setback and he now looks set to be handed a new role by coach Eric Chelle for tomorrow’s epic 2026 World Cup qualifier against Benin in Uyo.
In the absence of a right back following injuries to both Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel, the 31-year-old Ajayi is now most likely to play that position in Eric Chelle’s favoured 4-4-2 formation.
The versatile Benjamin Fredrick played that position in a 4-3-3 formation against Lesotho Friday, but he is now most likely to be moved again to central defence.
England-born Ajayi, who has been part of the Super Eagles set-up since his senior international debut in 2018, was a late replacement for Victor Osimhen against Lesotho as Eric Chelle locked shop in Polokwane.
He has now won 43 caps and scored a goal for the Super Eagles.

Juju or no juju why don’t we have our own too.
In as much I don’t believe in this juju of a thing , we should do ourselve.s some favour with comprehensive smart approach rather than the fire brigade one.
We should stop recommendations of players aloud the coaches to their job. Recommends is important nor forceful to the coaching crew members. The coches must stop collecting money from players merit or not merit, this is the bane of our major problems all time till now. We should go back in development ofn youth football rather than finished products , in all sport. We should train coaches as well.
Where’s our NIS of sport os it in existence ?
Corporations is another big problems.
If we don’t qualify NNF should take the blame and the must investigated.
Our young players are hungry to go to world cup, if they that re in their 26 years old fail to qualify their aspirations playing in the highest will be in jeopardy in their life not playing in the world cup
When we lost out or trailing behind small countries we now relent in permutations and prayers, why the authorities don’t see it as shame , once they get their the money the feel no concerns plunging a notion of about three hundred million.people in world shame.
It a shame we are branded one.of the poorest and most corrupt nations on the world.
The three hundred million Nigerians knows that NFF is our biggest enemy in under performance in football
NFF todays match must a win with 3 or more goals to zero if wust impress our nation short of this the NFF must voluntary resigned because we are tired of heart attack.
I rest my case.
