Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has given the major reason Nigeria’s top stars Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman are not featuring for the top clubs in Europe.
“Our two best players are Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman and they’re playing for Galatasaray and Atalanta and these clubs are not top clubs,” Oliseh said.
“The main reason is that our national team is no longer performing.
“When the Super Eagles were the top, we had players at the top clubs – (Nwankwo) Kanu was at Arsenal, Taribo was at Inter Milan and later AC Milan, Finidi and Tijjani Babangida played for Ajax, I was at Borussia Dortmond and Juventus.”
Oliseh was part of Nigerian football Golden generation in the 90s when Nigeria won a second AFCON in Tunisia, reached the second round of the 1994 World Cup on their debut and the Dream Team won a historic Olympic Gold in 1996.
The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and they are now in serious danger of not qualifying for the expanded 2026 World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.
