Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has tasked the Flying Eagles to raise their game in Monday’s U20 AFCON quarterfinal in Ismailia so as to qualify for the 2025 U20 World Cup in Chile.
This followed the team’s rather difficult 2-2 draw with Kenya in the final Group B clash Tuesday in Cairo.
The Flying Eagles performance against bottom team the Rising Stars of Kenya left a lot to be desired as they twice had to come from behind to draw level to secure their place in the last eight of the tournament.
Top NFF officials were clearly unhappy with the performance of the Flying Eagles, while Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle used the opportunity to charge the boys to be back at their best Monday afternoon so as to qualify for the semifinal of the tournament, which guarantees them a ticket to the World Cup in Chile in September.
“He urged the players to give everything on Monday because the first target is to qualify for the World Cup,” an official told SCORENigeria
The Flying Eagles finished as runners-up in Group B and will face the runners-up in Group C, which could be Ghana, DR Congo or defending champions Senegal, for place in the final four.
