Club Brugge coach has slammed Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika for giving away the ball too often, warning that the player must fix this problem if he wished to take his game to the next level.
Club Brugge were cruising 3-0 in the second half at Antwerp in continuation of the Belgian Championship playoffs before Onyedika gave away the ball from which the home team pulled a goal back.
Coach Nicky Hayen did not hide his frustration with the performance of the midfielder, who was eventually hauled off in the 82nd minute.
“That sometimes comes back in his game and that has to come out,” an unimpressed Hayen blasted.
“Especially when there is little pressure, you have to play without mistakes. And if he wants to take the next step in his career, this is no longer possible.”
He added: “Onyedika lost the ball, Tzolis too. That made it 2-3 and it suddenly seemed like a cup match. The 3-3 was really in the air. I wonder if my players like to make it so exciting all the time?
“Yes, I was critical in the dressing room. That is also necessary. We are in a title fight and then you cannot afford these kinds of moments.”
Club Brugge are four points behind Genk in the Championship playoffs after two rounds of matches.
They have 36 points.
