The Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) have maintained that South Africa should be docked three points and three goals for fielding a suspended player in their 2026 World Cup qualifier so as to protect the rules and integrity of their competition.
The LeFA could not lodge a protest within 24 hours as stipulated by FIFA after South Africa paraded a suspended player, Teboho Mokoena, against Lesotho in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on March 21.
Bafana Bafana won the game 2-0, but by FIFA rules and regulations they ought to forfeit the game by three points and three goals.
LeFA secretary general Mokhosi Mohapi said: We’re asking FIFA to live and die by their regulations and if you have precedence of where you have deducted points before on matters very similar of the one today,do so
“And then we will know that your notion of fair play is applied irrespective of who is the perpetrator in this instance.
“They have to so without looking at technicalities.”
He added: “The protest was not launched in accordance with the Statutes, but if you look at Article 9.3 that says they should be automatically suspended, then the ball should be in FIFA’s court.
“But then it is up to them to make the decision that is consistent with what they have done in the past and what they should be doing in the duture to make sure that the sport is played fairly.”
