The team manager of South Africa, Vincent Tseka, faces the sack after what officials described as a “very costly mistake” that saw Bafana Bafana fielding an ineligible player in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.
Midfielder Teboho Mokoena ought not to have played against Lesotho after he was was booked in two previous games and now South Africa risk forfeiting the match as a result.
Sources said it was the team manager’s responsibility to bring the previous bookings to the attention of the Bafana coach Hugo Broos, but he did not do so.
“It was a very costly mistake and he is most likely to pay for this by losing his job,” the source disclosed.
Various reports suggested that Tseka previously failed to book a stadium for the team’s friendlies against Sierra Leone and Botswana.
