Tolu Arokodare 15th goal of the season could well keep Genk on course in the Belgian Cup.
Belgian league top scorer Arokodare opened scoring for the visitors after half an hour, only for Club Brugge to fight back and win this semifinal first leg 2-1.
Both teams will clash again in the return leg on February 5 with the overall winners advancing to the cup final against either Anderlecht or Antwerp.
The cup final is slated for May 13.
