Experienced midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has explained how he has handled the pressure of playing for the Super Eagles amid all the criticisms.
“For me, when I go to a major tournament, I actually delete Instagram and Facebook from my phone,” he revealed.
“The only people who have my WhatsApp are people who are close, and they cannot insult the team.”
He made this revelation via Off the Pitch Football Space with fellow Super Eagles star Kenneth Omeruo,
“People don’t know how far it goes; when we lose a game we can’t even go to social media,” he further opened up.
“Me personally I delete it because these things affect me.
“I don’t delete it because of concentration, I delete it because of reactions.
“Before (2023) AFCON, I deleted the app, but if we win, I will download it because I want to share the victory with the fans.”
The Leicester City midfielder explained that reactions from Nigerians often affect players mentally and that could also affect their performance.
“At the AFCON in Cameroon, I was roommate with (Maduka) Okoye and I know how it affected him.
He was sick before the game against Tunisia but he was like he wants to play,” Ndidi said.
“It wasn’t even a big mistake (he made), but they killed him basically, and till now he hasn’t recovered.
“This is something very important. The fans should also know that it kills the players.
“Imagine everyone reacts like Okoye, who will play for the Super Eagles?”
