SCORENigeria has exclusively learnt that cost-cutting measures embarked upon by the NFF have now hit very hard the pockets of the Super Eagles backroom staff after a hefty 60% was slashed off their bonuses and allowances.
This followed the recommendation of a committee headed by two senior NFF executive committee members and this austerity measure also affects the other national teams.
Backroom staff of the various national teams are paid various percentages of bonuses and allowances based on their responsibilities.
Incidentally, this huge pay cut has come when both Super Eagles players and officials are still being owed bonuses and allowances for as many as 29 matches.
The Federal Government has paid the NFF 17 Billion Naira to clear these debts, but the Super Eagles are yet to be paid.
Last month, NFF president Ibrahim Gusau promised to pay the national team in December.
“We’re still waiting for the money,” responded one of the Super Eagles players.
Earlier this year, President Bola Tinubu generously approved the payment of a special bailout fund of 12 Billion Naira, which later rose to 17 Billion Naira, to clear monies owed the Super Eagles, Flying Eagles, Falconets and the Golden Eaglets.
Some of these debts went as far back as 2020.
Besides the Falconets, the other teams are yet to be paid.
