It’s a new season in Europe and already Super Eagles strikers like Cyriel Dessers and Josh Maja have wasted no time in firing in the goals to further underline the firepower available to Nigeria.
5.John Ebuka
The striker scored the opening goal for his club Ceramica Cleopatra to win the Egyptian League Cup at the expense of El-Gaish. His team won 3-1 and parade several Nigerians – Favour Akem, Sodiq Awujoola and Samuel Amadi.
4.Tolu Arokodare
The big striker, who recorded double-digit figures last season, has now scored twice in the new season in Belgium after he headed home for Genk to draw level at 2-2 at champions Club Brugge. Genk came back from two goals down to win 3-2 to condemn Club to their second defeat of the new campaign. The big striker has been linked to Turkish giants Trabzonspor, but it is left to be seen whether player and club will be tempted by a rich offer.
3.Victor Olatunji
The 24-year-old striker was the Super Sub after he came off the bench to get the equalizer for Czech club Sparta Praha in a UEFA Champions League third round playoff against FCSB. It was his second goal in the Champions League qualifiers. He has also scored twice in the Czech top-flight league. Last season, he netted eight goals and provided three assists in all competitions.
2.Josh Maja
After a past season bogged down by injury, Maja, who has been capped by the Super Eagles under Gernot Rohr, could not have hoped for a better start with West Bromwich Albion in the English Championship after his hat-trick against QPR. He went home with the match ball and will hope there are many more goals from his shooting boots as West Brom battle again to return to the Premier League.
1.Cyriel Dessers
The Super Eagles striker followed up on his vital Champions League playoff equaliser at Dynamo Kiev with his first goal in the Scottish league for Rangers. Rangers edged past Motherwell 2-1 to record their first league win of the new season and will hope they beat Dynamo Kiev tomorrow at temporary home Hampden Park to qualify for the money-spinning group stage of the Champions League. Dessers should again have a say in tomorrow’s clash.
