Paul Onuachu has earned special praise from Southampton manager as they get set for their Premier League return this weekend.
The Super Eagles striker played his first game for Southampton in a year when he came off the bench in a goalless draw with Getafe Saturday.
Southampton boss Russel Martin was impressed with the giant striker.
“I just think he’s different to what we have. He’s trained really, really well,” he told Daily Echo.
“He’s a different Paul to the one I came across last season in terms of confidence. I think the last pre-season was so difficult for so many of them.
“They hadn’t had a chance in the Premier League or they’d come in January and not really taken to it that well.
“This summer he’s a different beast and whilst he’s here, same as Kyle Walker-Peters, we will try and utilise him,” Martin insisted.
‘Saints’ would like to sell Onuachu before the transfer window closes, but have only received one offer from Trabzonspor – a £5million bid, which was rejected.
Onuachu made 11 Premier League appearances for the club without netting, but has scored 79 league goals since the start of the 2020/21 season.
Southampton begin their league campaign with a visit to Newcastle United on Saturday, August 17 – with Sekou Mara and Onuachu their only fit No 9s.
