Alhassan Yusuf is thrilled with his journey this year – a long-awaited debut for the Super Eagles and now he is set for a new adventure in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the USA, which close sources said ought not to hurt his international career.
His Belgian club Antwerp have not listed him for tomorrow’s league clash against STVV as he is currently undergoing a routine medical before he jets out to the US.
“Alhassan is in the process of a transfer,” Antwerp confirmed.
A source close to the 23-year-old midfielder told SCORENigeria he is excited to take up the massive opportunities that the MLS offers him and also confident this move will not end his international career.
“Alhassan can’t wait to get started in the US. The MLS is one of the fastest growing leagues in the world with the caliber of world stars heading that way now, the football is a lot better now and it can only get better after the US co-hosts the next World Cup in 2026,” the source told SCORENigeria
“This transfer should therefore not put on hold his Super Eagles career, rather it should enhance it.”
The Kano-born midfield maestro has also secured his young family’s future by going stateside.
“He is happy with his personal terms,” the source said.
“He was overdue a transfer particularly with the massive re-organisation now at Antwerp, where he only had a year left on his contract.”
Antwerp have made a tidy profit by this transfer as MLS club New England Revolution will pay them $2.5 Million and also get a sell-on percentage.
Alhassan has agreed a contract for three and half years.
