The Super Falcons may be back at the Olympics after a 16-year absence and are drawn in a tough first round group, but poster-girl Asisat Oshoala has said they could still medal in Paris.
The nine-time African champions already proved the form books wrong at last year’s World Cup when they advanced past a group that had co-hosts Australia and reigning Olympics champions Canada.
Only second-choice goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi on the Super Falcons squad in Paris has previously featured at the Olympics, but Oshoala has expressed confidence of a podium finish by the team.
“I have a lot of confidence in this team,” backed the six-time African Footballer of the Year.
“We have many young players, and we can make things difficult for our opponents.
“We don’t just think about getting out of the group, I think we can actually walks away with a medal.”
The Falcons open their campaign later today against Brazil in Bordeaux.
The Group C match kicks off 6pm.
