Former Super Falcons coach Edwin Okon has said he believes the country will do well at the Paris 2024 Olympics because the players are driven to succeed and not because of the tactics of coach Randy Waldrum.
The Super Falcons are drawn in a tough-looking first round group along with world champions Spain, Japan and Brazil.
They begin their campaign against Brazil on July 25 in Bordeaux.
“The players are determined to do well for themselves and the country,” said Edwin Okon in a radio interview monitored by SCORENigeria
“The girls know what is at stake, they want to make it and how to go about this.
“It won’t be the coaching that will make Nigeria proud at the Olympics.”
Last year, Okon assisted coach Randy Waldrum at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
However, he was critical of the American coach for disregarding local-based players and not working with local assistants.
“I’m not against anybody, but the truth must be told – he wants ready-made players, he doesn’t take risks,” he said.
“He has no regard for local players, some of who are far better than those on the final squad (to the Olympics) and his assistants, he only relies on those he came along with.
“There are only two home-based players on the list, while I picked only five foreign pros on my squad when I took the team to the World Cup.”

News outlets should stop 🚏 airing imbecilic opinions from failures like Edwin Okon. What has he achieved in his life as a coach? Why hasn’t the hunger made them win the world cup?
Hmmmmmm I know him personally. He is not a good coach he doesn’t train players in his team. He is always discriminating against new one’s and old players in field. I left the team in Akwa ibom he happened to be their local coach because of this.
Chai!!!!!!. Mr. Okon, players by their hunger chose their first eleven. They did substitutions too. Every player with hunger should force their way into the Super Falcons squad.
Mr. Okon, it is well with you.
If these comments actually came from Mr Okon, then permit me to say they he is SHAMELESS!
Edwin Okon (who did not achieve anything with the Super Falcons as coach) has no moral right to be critical of Mr Randy Waldrun. Instead, he (Okon) must learn to be humble and appreciate Waldrun’s work rather than making us believe he is a better manager.
…Typical local coach with witchhunting mentality maybe because his bribed players are not included in the list…no b your fault..NFF, pls let all foreign coaches bring in their assistant…all these local coaches are get K leg
