Tolu Arokodare scored a last-ditch equaliser for Genk to hold Anderlecht to a 1-1 draw and he celebrated his goal with the fans of the opposing team who have been very critical of him since he chose to sign for Genk and not their darling club.
On the last day of the previous winter transfer window, Arokodare was on his way to Anderlecht, only for him to end up at Genk.
When he rescued the game for Genk Sunday with a stoppage time header, he opted to celebrate with the Anderlecht fans.
“I didn’t want to provoke, they just provoked me,” the striker said.
“Since that transfer, I have received a lot of messages from Anderlecht fans. You should just see my phone now, it’s like that again.
“I can tell you: those are certainly not compliments. Negative stuff. Oh well, I went to greet them after my goal. It was my way of saying ‘Hey, here I am again.'”
He said he does not regret he chose Genk ahead of Anderlecht.
“I think I made the right decision. Not that Anderlecht were a bad option, but Genk were always the best choice,” he said.
