The Super Eagles will today in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire know who are the five countries who stand between them and a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada.
The draw ceremony will begin by 5pm.
The Eagles have been placed among the top seeds by virtue of their FIFA Ranking in June, which placed them as the sixth best team in Africa.
This means they have already avoided some of Africa’s top guns like Morocco, Senegal and Algeria.
However, they could still come up against some other notable competition like Ghana, who stopped them from last year’s World Cup in Qatar, South Africa and DR Congo.
The qualifying tournament for the World Cup will begin in November.
Africa will be represented by nine teams in the expanded tournament and could produce an additional representative from an intercontinental playoffs.
Five teams represented the continent in Qatar last year with Morocco making history as the first African team to reach the semifinal of the World Cup.
