Gent have formally complained to the relevant authorities after Gift Orban was targeted on social media by racists.
The striker, who helped his club to an important 2-1 win at Standard Liege in the Conference League playoffs Saturday, was racially abused on Twitter for that effort from the centre circle which crashed against the crossbar.
Comments like ‘give him a banana’ and ‘blackbag’ were posted to a Twitter post by TV rights holders Eleven Sports.
The rights holder did his duty and blocked the accounts behind this.
But Gent went a step further.
“These distasteful reactions have been reported to the relevant authorities. A complaint will also be made to the police,” the club announced.
