The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have tasked the Flying Eagles to win this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina, while also mapping out strategies for Super Falcons to shine at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The NFF executive committee rose from Monday’s meeting in Abuja to enjoin the Flying Eagles to go all the way to win the U20 World Cup after they described as a “below-par” outing at the U20 AFCON in Egypt.
“While asseverating that the bronze-medal performance of the U20 Boys, Flying Eagles at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt was below-par, the Board exhorted the technical crew and the players to see it as a national duty to win the FIFA U20 World Cup for Nigeria when the tournament takes place in Argentina between 20 May and 11 June,” part of the communiqué read.
The NFF also charged the Golden Eaglets to win the U17 AFCON, which will be staged in Algeria between April 29 and May 19, 2023, and qualify for the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup.
The football body noted the new winning mentality of the country’s women’s team, the Super Falcons.
They disclosed the Falcons will play a top grade warm-up game leading up to the World Cup in July, before a two-week training camp in Australia.
