KAA Gent look good to reach the Top 4 Championship playoffs in Belgium at the expense of defending champions Club Brugge thanks in part to the superb run of Gift Emmanuel Orban.
5.Raphael Onyedika
The defensive midfielder is pushing for defending champions Club Brugge to qualify for the Belgian Championship playoffs. He was outstanding as they won 3-0 at KV Mechelen to stay within striking distance of Gent, who currently occupy the fourth and last spot to the playoffs. The former FC Midtjylland star has enjoyed a great debut season in Belgium so much so that his transfer market value has now shot to 10 Million Euros.
4.Odion Ighalo
The former Super Eagles striker is proving to be like a good wine – the older he gets, the better he gets. He scored twice late in the first half for defending champions Al Hilal to beat Al Khaleej and stay among the title contenders led by Al Ittihad. He now has 14 goals, just one goal shy of the leading scorer in the league. Last season, he was crowned Goal King of Saudi Arabia with 20 goals.
3.Terem Moffi
The Super Eagles striker grabbed his fourth Ligue 1 goal for new club OGC Nice to take his overall tally this season to an all-time high of 16 goals when he opened scoring at Angers. He is now just three goals short of joint leading scorers in Ligue 1, Jonathan David (Lille) and Kylian Mbappe (PSG). Nice though slipped in their quest to get into the five-team bracket for European football next season. They are eighth in the standings with 45 points from 29 matches.
2.Ademola Lookman
After an underwhelming outing with the Super Eagles in a 2023 AFCON double-header against Guinea Bissau, the forward returned to Italy to score his 13th goal in Serie A this season. He hit target in a 3-1 win at bottom club US Cremonese. This goal was coming almost three months after his last league goal against Sampdoria in January.
1.Gift Orban
The latest scoring sensation in Belgium has continued with getting his numbers up after a brace and an assist in a 5-0 thumping of Seraing. He has now netted nine goals in the league and most importantly his club Gent remain two points ahead of defending champions Club Brugge in an epic battle for a place in the championship. The results of the final three rounds of matches in the regular season will determine who makes the Top 4 and Orban’s goals will be expected to play a big role. He has 14 goals and two assists in all competitions.
