Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma has been ruled out of tomorrow’s 2023 AFCON rematch against Guinea Bissau after a serious facial injury in the first game.
Officials told SCORENigeria the central defender, who started Friday’s clash in Abuja before he was forced out by the injury, did not train with the Eagles Saturday before the team’s departure for Bissau early the next day.
West Bromwich Albion defender Semi Ajayi is now expected to be a direct replacement for the former Germany U20 captain.
Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is also expected to ring several changes to the team he started in Abuja as Nigeria are now suddenly battling to qualify for the AFCON when they could have booked their passage to Cote d’Ivoire with a home win over The Djurtus of Guinea Bissau.
