Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder has praised Calvin Bassey as a great signing by the top Dutch club.
Bassey, 22, was the costliest defender ever bought by the Amsterdam club when they forked out over 23 million Euros to sign him from Rangers.
“I think he’s a great signing for us,” the Ajax coach remarked.
“We’re happy that he’s here in our team.
“He’s a very positive guy, good energy in the team, he’s improving with the ball.
“We’re very happy he’s in our squad.”
This high praise comes on the day the Super Eagles defender will come face-to-face for the first time with his former club Rangers in the UEFA Champions League.
Bassey said his old friends will be foes on the pitch tonight.
“It will be a mind game. When I’m on the field, they will no longer be my friends for 90 minutes and I’ll do everything to help Ajax win that game. On that field it is – as we call it in English – dog for dog, an every man batting for himself,” he told Telegraaf.
