A much-improved Super Falcons scored a first goal in 20 years against the USA, but they still fell 2-1 to reigning world champions in a second friendly played in Washington DC.
The Falcons were trounced 4-0 by the Americans in the first friendly in Kansas City last week.
The nine-time African champions put up a remarkably improved display with Falconets defender Tosin Demehin solid in the heart of the defence even though she netted an own goal in the 25th minute.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie then pulled off a string of saves to deny the Americans from adding to their lead.
Mexico-based striker Uchenna Kanu drew the Falcons level in the 49th minute to reward their improved showing.
It was only the second time this year that USA will concede a goal.
However, the USA fired the winning goal in the 67th minute through a header to deny Nigeria a result against them.
