Much-traveled striker Oke Akpoveta has said he has been pleasantly surprised with the standard of the league in Malta.
The 30-year-old Akpoveta surprised many earlier this year when he cut short his stay at Swedish second division club Hoganas BK to sign for Valletta FC in Malta.
“There were a number of offers from clubs in Ettan (Swedish third division). They were very interested, but my plan was to play at the highest or second division,” he said.
“At the end, If I were to continue playing at a high level, only Valletta were on the table.
“The league in Malta is a very strong one.
“When I sat on the bench and watched a match, I thought ‘it’s not as bad as I thought’.
“They play with intensity and use a lot of energy to tackle. It’s something I have to be ready for.”
