German club Hamburg have announced they are delighted Xavier Amaechi signed for them from Arsenal despite receiving more lucrative offers.
The Hamburg head of sport Jonas Boldt said he is delighted a player of Amaechi’s kind of talent joined the team despite offers from top clubs in England and other places.
The 18-year-old winger passed his medical on Saturday at the UKE Athleticum before signing a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2023.
“He’s a young, talented player, who is quick off-the-mark, has short, sharp movements with and without the ball and looks for 1-vs-1 situations where he can use his skills,” Boldt remarked.
“I didn’t really believe at first that we would be able to negotiate the signature of Amaechi.
“It was amazing that, despite lucrative offers from other clubs in England and abroad, he decided to join Hamburg. We’re delighted with the signing and his potential, patience is going to be needed.”
The 18-year-old Xavier Amaechi is delighted with the deal and he is impressed with the reception at Hamburg.
“The conditions here really are perfect. I’m really impressed by the team, the fans and the stadium. I think it’s a big chance for me to play for this club,” he said.
The youngster started with Fulham academy before he joined Arsenal in 2013.
The midfielder scored four goals in 14 games for Arsenal U23s last season.
