The new coach of the Super Eagles will be a foreigner, but it won’t be the Portuguese Jose Peseiro, a top NFF official has informed SCORENigeria
Peseiro was due to take over the Eagles after the recent AFCON in Cameroon, but eventually Augustine Eguavoen’s temporary appointment was extended to cover the ill-fated 2022 World Cup playoffs against Ghana.
“The NFF will not renew contacts with Peseiro,” a top official disclosed.
“We are looking for a more seasoned coach as we try to move Nigeria football forward after our failure to qualify for the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar.”
Both the NFF and the sports ministry have agreed that a foreign coach lead the Super Eagles.
A top local coach will assist this new foreign coach.
The Super Eagles will be back in action in June, when the qualifying series for the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire enters the second round.
